On Reserve

The Army Reserve (previously known as The Territorial Army), is undergoing a national re-structure and re-branding; over the coming years the UK Government is looking to invest £1.2 billion from now until 2020 in order to increase the number of voluntary Army Reservists from 19,000 as it stands currently, to 30,000 by the end of the decade.

This will be in line with the Governments intention to reduce the “regular”, professional armed forces by 102,000 to 82,000 soldiers.

The images form part of a larger body of work which covers the stories of a number of voluntary soldiers based in and around the North-West. The soldiers which are included in the project, give their opinions on their inclusion in recent conflicts, how they believe they are perceived, and what they feel the future holds for recent and prospective recruits of The Army Reserves.
